Kőszeg Mountains

Ranging over the border, Kőszeg Mountains is the part of Austrian-Hungarian Nature Park where hikers can enjoy well signed trails among alpine-like mountains. Several popular destinations such as the highest peak and its lookout tower on the border, the charming Saint Vid Chapel, The Seven Springs or the Calvary Church with its stunning view attract visitors. Hiding at the foot of the mountains, several villages boast various interesting places like the rustic Wine Cellars in Cák, Sibrik Palace in Bozsok or the Watermill in Velem.

There is a wide choice of interesting trails and hiking routes in the mountains: the Styrian Houses, Hörmann Spring and the Old House Lookout Tower can be reached from Kincs-pihenő and its parking lot.

Írottkő – the highest peak of Kőszeg Mountains and West Hungary – can be reached from a pleasant village, Velem by passing the charming Saint Vid Chapel. On the way back, a group of unique geological formation named Kalaposkő (Stone with a Hat) can be seen.

The surroundings of the mountains closer to the town provide easy hiking trails for explorers. Having seen the Calvary Hill, the Old House peak could be reached. It once housed the first castle of Kőszeg and provides a stunning view. One of the most popular destinations in the mountains is the Seven Springs and then the town could be reached again following the trace of the former Iron Curtain.
